Kelowna Boat and RV Storage
Get a head start on summer vehicle storage with these helpful tips.

As the infamous Okanagan heat begins to recede, the kids start heading back to school, and the leaves begin to flutter to the ground, it's time to start thinking about RV and boat storage solutions. Before you know it, a light dusting of snow will begin to blanket the valley, and winter will be here. Before that happens, though, it's important to ensure your favourite summer vehicles are safely tucked away for the year. To get you started, we've compiled a few summer vehicle storage tips.

Boat Storage Tips

Now that the dog days of summer are officially over, it's time to get your water ride ready for winter. Here are a few of the ways you can get started:

1. Make a plan

Figure out exactly when it's time to put your beloved boat away for the rest of the year. Since there are still a few weeks left of decent boating weather, you may want to push the winterization date out. However, it's important to make sure your boat is winterized before the temperature drops below zero.

2. Give your boat some love

To lessen the winterization workload now is a great time to give your boat a good cleaning.

3. Create a checklist

Before it's time to winterize, create an easy-to-follow winterization checklist. For a checklist example, check out our previous post: Boat Storage Kelowna Tips: Winterize Your Boat Like a Boss.

4. Consider your storage options

Now is the time to figure out what your storage options are. If you're like most people, you probably don't want to store your boat at home where it can take up lots of much-needed parking space. Call around to a few different storage facilities in Kelowna and find one that works best for you and your budget.

RV Storage Tips

With camping season coming to an end, it's probably time to start making the proper storage arrangements for your portable summer vacation home.

1. Protect against pests

Pests love your RV nearly as much as you do, and may try to turn it into their winter home once you've parked it for the season. To prevent this, inspect your RV for areas where pests can make their way in, install mousetraps, and make sure all the food items are removed.

2. Clean the interior

Get a head start on the winterization process by cleaning out the inside of your RV. Remove all food items, and give every surface a good scrub.

3. Clean the exterior

To get your ride looking its best for the next camping season, clean the exterior with soap and water. Don't forget to make sure everything is dry before parking the RV for the winter.

Motorcycle Storage Tips

After the first snowfall, trucks carrying sand will be out on the streets in full force. This typically means the end of motorcycle season. Before that happens, prepare your bike for the off-season.

1. Find a suitable storage location

If you've got room in your garage for parking your bike over the winter, that's great. Go ahead and make sure that space is cleaned up and ready to host your ride. If not, you may want to think about renting a storage unit.

2. Do an oil change

If you've got the time, it's a great idea to perform an oil change on your bike before the winter season hits. You should also take it for one last ride afterwards to give the oil a chance to circulate before parking it.

3. Give it a scrub

Just like all your other summer toys, your bike should be clean and free from dirt before being placed into winter storage.
