Kelowna storage units can help with spring cleaning.

Once the sun starts shining, the itch to open the windows and let the fresh air in starts to set in. And when it does, the need to start your spring-cleaning routine will likely follow. A storage space can be your best friend during this time of year.

To simplify the spring-cleaning process, try these six steps this spring season:

1. Abolish Clutter

The first step to take towards a tidier home this spring is removing the clutter.  This can include clothing, linens, seasonal decor, and random knick-knacks and papers. Be removing extra items from your home, you'll give your home a refreshed and airy kind of feeling.

2. Store Seasonal Gear

Once the winter season is behind us, it's time to store away all the winter items you no longer need. Whether you choose to use one of the storage facilities in Kelowna or your own basement or garage, just tucking these items away will get you closer towards a spring-ready home.

Once you've put away all the cold-weather gear, bring out the spring and summer items, like the patio furniture, gardening tools, and lawnmower.

3. Get Cleaning

Now that your home is tidy, it's time to get scrubbing. Some of the tasks to tackle include:

  • Dust and wash window treatments
  • Scrub the walls and floorboards
  • Wash windows and window sills
  • Vacuum and flip all mattresses
  • Shampoo the carpets and area rugs
  • Organize and wipe out cupboards and drawers

4. Invest in Home Storage Solutions

There are probably numerous areas in your home that can benefit from some form of storage. From installing shelving in the closets to incorporating baskets and bookshelves, there are a million different ways to increase the amount of storage that already exists.

Pegboards can be used to amplify the amount of storage space that exists. And they're not just for use in the garage. If you've got a craft room, pegboards are fantastic. They can also work in the kitchen.

5. Consider Additional Storage

If you find that there really isn't any more storage space available in your home, consider renting a storage unit. Look for a facility that offers:

  • Climate-controlled units
  • A secure and convenient location
  • Budget-friendly rates and specials
  • Friendly and professional staff

6. Compose a Cleaning Schedule

Although many people wait until spring to start tackling their storage and cleaning needs, studies show that most people are happier when living in a clean and organized space. To help keep your hard efforts paying off year round, consider implementing a weekly cleaning schedule.

For example, Sundays can be set aside for cleaning the bathrooms and catching up on laundry while Mondays work best for vacuuming and mopping.
