Mibox Storage Rental Guide

Prepare your boat and other summer toys for winter by using our storage space tips.

It seems like only yesterday that you were zipping along Okanagan Lake, wind whipping through your hair. Now that the days are getting shorter and the sun’s ray are not penetrating as much warmth, it may be time to think about what to do with your summer toys and vehicles such as boats, RVs, motorcycles, bikes, etc. Be ready for next season by looking for storage space solutions that will meet all your needs and use our tips to help you pack, clean, organize, fix and store your belongings.

Look for All-in-One Storage Facilities

If you are looking for vehicle storage along with a place to keep your summer gear, look for a storage centre and book your space(s) as soon as possible. Make sure the facility offers self-storage options such as:

  • Outdoor RV and boat storage lots
  • Storage lockers
  • Onsite storage containers with 24-hour access
  • Portable storage containers
  • Tire storage in Kelowna
  • Climate controlled indoor facility

Maintain and Clean Your Vehicles for Next Season

Once you’ve found the best place to store your summer toys and vehicles, get out your hose, vacuum, scrubber and bucket and get ready to apply a little elbow grease by cleaning both the inside and outside of your vehicle, RV or boat.

For your RV, don’t forget to:

  • Remove the main battery as well as the CO2-smoke alarm and store them separately
  • Check the fridge and remove any perishables
  • Dispose of any wastewater in your holding tanks (look for storage facilities that have a sani-dump station)
  • Drain and flush your water tank, heater and lines

For your boat, make sure to:

  • Wax the exterior to prevent rust and corrosion
  • Remove the battery and all electronics and store them separately away from heat and damp
  • Fill the gas tank and add fuel stabilizer
  • Plug up all openings
  • Cover it for added protection

Prepare for car and motorcycle storage by:

  • Checking the engine oil
  • Topping up fluids
  • Inflating tires to maximum PSI or removing them to place in tire storage
  • Taking the battery out and storing it in a cool, dry place
  • Preventing moisture with a tight-fitting tarpaulin or other cover

Prevent Damage to Your Bicycle

Not only is it important to properly store motorized vehicles for winter, but also your bicycles. The best way to do this is to place them inside and out of the cold. Look for bike storage facilities and make sure to remove all bike accessories such as water bottles, GPS units, etc. Grease your chain and ensure all the parts are working properly so that your bike will be ready to ride for next season.
