James Bond Lotus Esprit S1 found in Storage Container

Beyond Kelowna, portable storage containers have revealed unlikely and incredibly valuable belongings at auctions.
One of these includes the Lotus Esprit S1 from the James Bond movie,
The Spy Who Loved Me.

When you imagine what's behind the roll-up door of Kelowna portable storage containers, you probably picture things like sofas, lamps and boxes marked 'KITCHEN'. But, if you've ever seen an episode of Storage Wars, you know that much, much stranger, and more valuable objects can be found behind the doors of storage boxes.

Here is a top five list of unusual finds in portable storage containers and storage units:

1. Burt Reynolds glory.

Even stars forget about the stuff they have in storage and making the payments. An abandoned unit that once belonged to actor Burt Reynolds contained so many items‚ canoe from the film Deliverance, a bill of sale for Roy Rogers' dog, a horse carriage built by Dolly Parton‚ the owner opened a museum.

2. Body parts.

When one man fired up the grill in his storage auction find, he was more than a little surprised to find a human leg wrapped in tin foil inside. The barbecue's former owner, it turned out, had lost his leg in a plane crash and was holding on to the leg so he could one day be buried with it, but forgot about it. Other strange cases have included a grandmother's casketed body being found left in unit, while other families have left behind the ashes of loved ones.

3. Nicholas Cage's comic books.

For most of us, storage box rentals are a place to store sleeping bags and record collections until the next move. For others, it's a place to hide stolen goods for a while. An abandoned and sold storage unit in southern California churned up a stolen Action Comics book of Cage's‚ the first appearance of Superman now worth $2 million. It was returned to a bankrupt Cage, who sold it and put the money toward his millions of debt.

4. Really rare cars.

A Long Island bidder paid just $100 for an abandoned portable storage container that turned out to house a finned Lotus Esprit S1, the submarine car featured in The Spy Who Loved Me, a 1977 James Bond film.

On the other side of the pond, a nephew was uncovering his deceased English uncle's storage unit and uncovered a 1937 Bugatti 57S, untouched for nearly 50 years and worth almost $9 million.

5. Coins and cash.

It's hard to believe people would leave money behind in a storage container, sometimes to the tune of thousands, even millions of dollars, but it's true. In one of the most surprising instances, a Texas man bought at storage unit at an auction for $1,100 and went home with a Rubbermaid container filled with rare coins as well as gold and silver ingots worth more than half a million dollars!
