Take advantage of the convenience of a Kelowna self storage unit this summer.

The sun is out, and it's (hopefully) here to stay! Now that it's time to start switching gears from hibernation to summer living, there are a few things that need a little attention around the house. Instead of spending the summer stepping around your ski and snowboard equipment and snow blower, consider utilizing a Kelowna self storage unit instead.

To make the transition smoother, we've compiled a to-do list.

Do a Quick Sort

When going through your winter stuff, it's a good idea to organize and sort your items into the following categories:

  • Clothing & Linens
  • Footwear
  • Equipment

By sorting through your items before tossing them into a storage unit, you'll be able to ensure that they're packed up properly. Plus proper storage ensures they'll be in perfect condition when the snow starts to fall again.

Pack it up

Now that you've got your items into the appropriate group, it's time to pack.

Clothing and Linens - these items will need to properly cleaned and dried before being packed away. This will help prevent mould and mildew from forming.

Footwear - it's also important to ensure any footwear, including ski and snowboard boots, have been properly cleaned and dried as well. Besides preventing mould and mildew, this will stop any damage from occurring due to a build up of road salts and sand.

Equipment - to ensure your pricey winter equipment is taken care of during the off-season, it's important to take a few extra steps when storing these items.

  • For skis and snowboards, clean them properly then add a fresh coating of wax to keep them protected.
  • Toboggans and shovels require little maintenance ‚Äì just make sure they're clean and dry.
  • Mechanized snow removal items may need a little mechanical maintenance before being put into storage. A good lube can go a long way in extending the life of these useful tools.

Pick a Kelowna Self Storage Facility

Now it's time to find yourself a storage facility. With so many available in Kelowna, it may be tricky to narrow it down to just one. Look for some of these self storage options when choosing from the list of storage facilities:

  • Great promotions and deals
  • Free move-in truck and driver
  • Around the clock security
  • A variety of different unit sizes
  • Fantastic customer service

Put it Away Until the Fall

Now that everything is packed and a Kelowna self storage facility has been chosen, it's time to move in.

Clothing and Linens ‚Äì these items should be stored above the floor on a pallet. In the rare event that water enters your unit, items stored off the ground are less likely to get water damaged.

Footwear - boxes containing footwear should also be placed above the ground for the same reasons.

Equipment - winter equipment and gear should be left in its most natural state. A neutral position will reduce any strain and keep your items in good working condition.
