Kelowna Storage for Clutter

Keep a little extra cash in your pocket with these affordable ideas to customize your self storage locker.

One of the biggest benefits to renting a Kelowna self storage unit is the convenience. You can tuck away some of your unneeded belongings until they’re needed again, and you can do it in a private little (or big) space that’s basically a blank palette. To help you keep your storage game on track, we’ve compiled some of our favourite DIY storage hacks for keeping an organized space. Whether it’s a locker, a MI-BOX® portable storage container, or your own home, these affordable storage hacks will give you peace of mind without breaking the bank.

Egg Cartons

These often-overlooked containers are perfect for storing small, round-shaped objects. An egg carton is the perfect helper when it comes to holiday décor. Pack Christmas balls and baubles in egg cartons and stack them together in a clearly labelled hard plastic tote until you’re ready for them next year.

Egg cartons also make excellent holders for:

  • Jewellery
  • Small figurines
  • Stationery items

Retired Dressers

If you’ve recently switched out your old bedroom furniture for new stuff, don’t toss out your old dressers. Use a dresser for extra storage instead of running out to buy plastic totes and shelving for your storage unit. Not only will this give your old dresser a new purpose, you’ll also save yourself a bit of cash. Your retired dresser will keep your items safe and give you easy access to them the next time you visit your storage locker.

Tension Rods

Tension rods can make any organized space organized in just a few minutes. If you’ve got a bunch of items that need a space to be hung, grab a tension rod and put your creativity to work. In a storage unit, move furniture around to give you the space you need for installation. If you’re at home, consider installing one in the shower for hanging baskets of bath toys and shampoo or under the kitchen sink for hanging spray bottles. There’s no limit to the amount of uses a tension bar is good for.

A Pegboard

These underrated boards are one of the best ways to maximize storage potential. If tool storage is high on your list of priorities at the moment, head to your local hardware store and grab some pegboard and hooks. You can even do a search of local buy and sell sites to see if you can get your hands on a used one to keep your self-storage solutions affordable.

Some other items that store well on pegboards include:

  • Craft and sewing supplies
  • Outdoor children toys and accessories
  • Gardening tools
  • Kitchen utensils
  • Jewellery and accessories
