Storage & Spring Cleaning Tips

Maximize your spring-cleaning potential by taking advantage of a storage unit.

After a season of closed windows, wet, dirty footwear, and a furnace constantly blasting warm air throughout the house, it's easy to see why homeowners pick up the spring-cleaning itch once the warmer weather arrives. If your spring-cleaning goals include decluttering and organizing, read on to discover how a storage unit will become your best friend during the big spring-cleaning event.

Tackle the Rugs

Once the snow begins to melt, muddy boots become a staple in most homes, and your doormats and rugs are the first line of defence in the fight to keep your home clean. These hardworking dirt deflectors deserve a good cleaning. If the weather is warm enough, wash them and leave them outside to dry/air out.

Pull out the Carpet Cleaner

Your carpets are probably looking a little dull from hosting a barrage of guests cooped up during the winter months. To get them back to their usual appearance, put your good old carpet cleaner to work. Once you've finished the carpets, go ahead and clean the upholstery as well. These tasks will breathe new life into your stuffy living areas.

Knock out Clutter

When winter arrives, many homeowners spend more time indoors than during any other season. This pretty much always translates to an increase in clutter. To get your home back to the way you like it, get yourself an affordable storage unit.

Wash the Windows

If you spent most of the winter peering out your window wondering when spring would finally arrive, you may need to wash the finger and nose prints off your window. Don't forget to tackle all the windows, both inside and out.

Look up! Way up!

Your ceiling and light fixtures may be covered in a light coating of dust since you closed your windows to the colder season. To get them ready to sparkle in the coming sunshine, spend some time dusting and washing anything stuck to the ceiling or wall. When the sun shines, you'll be so happy that dust collection is no longer around.

Get Soapy

Grab a pail of warm, soapy water and wipe down the walls, cabinets, and baseboards. These surfaces hardly get the attention they deserve year round, so make sure to spend a little extra time here. From sticky fingerprints left behind by your cute, yet messy toddler to dried up spills on the kitchen cabinets, you'll be so thankful you tackled this project before the sun highlights them.

Spoil the Appliances

To round out your spring-cleaning frenzy, spend a little time cleaning up your home appliances. Besides the basic wipe down, vacuum out the coils at the back of the refrigerator, run the self-cleaning function on the oven, and vacuum out the lint trap in the dryer.
