When using this method for tidying and cleaning, start with the task that fills you with the most dread, then move on to less stressful jobs, such as packing boxes.

Try the Pomodoro Technique®

Developed by Francesco Cirillo, the Pomodoro Technique® is a time-management method named after an Italian-named tomato kitchen timer.

The basic concept works for all manner of projects, including sorting your belongings for a storage container rental. Follow these main steps: 

  1. Decide on a task you wish to complete
  2. Set a timer for 25-minute intervals
  3. Work on one task until the timer goes off
  4. Place a checkmark on a to-do list
  5. Take a short break if you have less than four checkmarks
  6. Take a more extended break after completing more than four intervals and then reset back to step one

Select what tasks are essential vs. non-important, and urgent vs. less urgent to help you plan, organize, schedule, and prioritize what needs storing, and what doesn’t.
