Kelowna Storage Containers
Now is the time to find and organize a storage unit to store all your summer toys and equipment.

Contractors, home improvement do-it-yourself-ers, and all kinds of trades professionals rely on properly functioning tools when on the jobsite. However, when those helpful tools aren’t being used, they need to be stored somewhere that’s easily accessible. This is where portable storage containers come into play. It’s also really important that the tools, especially power tools, are stored properly to prevent damage.

For a few tricks of the trade when it comes to tool storage, read on.

Make a Self Storage Plan

It’s important to consider proper storing practices for your power tools before beginning a job. Whether it’s a job around the house or a professional one, you’ll likely require power tools while working. Consider the following before getting started:

  • Where can I keep the tools that aren’t in use?
  • How can I keep them protected from the elements?
  • How do I protect them from theft?
  • How much space will I need for storage?

Execute the Self Storage Plan

If you’ve decided that you require a portable container for your materials and equipment, have one delivered to your jobsite. Once it arrives, spend a little time planning out how everything will be stored away. Before you start, consider the following:

  • Keep the tools off the floor – it’s a great idea to add some shelving to the unit. This will prevent a tripping hazard but also protect the tools from damage.
  • Ensure the shelving you install is sturdy. Power tools are heavy and require a sturdy frame to hold them up.
  • Keep the dust to a minimum. Dust can wreak havoc on power tool motors and lubricated areas. Ensure the storage option you’ve selected has doors to keep tools protected against dust and dirt.
  • Be sure to use the storage space wisely and effectively.
  • Ensure the unit is locked between use to keep children and potential thieves out.

Bonus: Cordless Tool Storage Tips

  • Cordless tools and batteries are particularly fragile when exposed to the elements. Ensuring these items are properly stored in their original hard-covered cases can guarantee they continue to perform well.
  • The recommended storage temperature for rechargeable batteries is 15 degrees Celsius. Although batteries can withstand higher and lower temperatures for short periods of time, keep these items in a climate-controlled environment during extreme weather.
  • It’s always a good idea to remove batteries before tucking tools away into storage.
