Simplify fall clean up with portable storage containers.

Once Halloween is over and the spooky decorations have been put back into storage, it’s time to prepare for the first snowfall. Besides tidying up the yard, you may find yourself looking for homes for all the summertime toys and equipment. Portable storage containers can be a big help when it comes to fall clean up. To keep yourself organized and make this year’s clean up a breeze, check out some of these helpful pointers.

Make Yourself a Checklist

Before digging out the rake, draw up a checklist of all the items that need to be dealt with before that first snowflake starts to fly. This should include things like:

Cleaning out the gutters – Making sure the gutters are free of debris will help to avoid costly leaks during the cooler months. Once the snow begins to melt, you’ll be happy you took the necessary steps to ensure proper drainage.

Raking the leaves – Fallen leaves left unattended can contribute to snow mould. Those pesky leaves have even been known to suffocate grass, which can give homeowners a bit of a problem come springtime. To make sure your grass looks fresh next spring, pull out the rake and get raking.

Mowing the lawn one more time – Set your blade height to an inch high and start up your mower one last time. This last trim will prevent a build-up of dead grass that may smother new grass growth. Once you’re done, park it right inside your portable storage container for the perfect storage solution.

Double-checking outdoor lighting – Once the cold weather hits, the last thing you want to do is replace outdoor light bulbs. As the days get shorter, the outdoor lights become important.

Preparing the garden – After the fall harvest, it’s time to clean and clear the vegetable garden. Dig out any remaining veggies, till the soil thoroughly then add a few inches of compost. Your garden will be ready for planting as soon as the snow melts.

One of the biggest jobs that accompany winter preparation is finding storage solutions for summertime toys and yard tools. Some of the tool-related items that can be stored easily in portable storage include:

  • Push mowers
  • Lawn tractors
  • Rakes
  • Leaf blowers
  • Chainsaws

Now that the warmth of the sun has begun to fade, it’s probably time to start putting away some of these summertime essentials:

  • Paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks
  • Camping gear like tents, tarps, and canvas chairs
  • Boating equipment like water skis, wakeboards, and life jackets
  • Patio furniture and cushions
  • The kiddie pool and toys
  • Pool equipment (for the big pool)
