Winter is Coming: Store Summer Stuff in Mobile Storage

Get ready for the winter season with a MIBOX® container rental.

With winter well on the way, it's definitely time to start packing up the summer gear. Whether that means deflating the pool floaties or swapping out that sunny wardrobe with warmer clothes, our tips will help make the whole process run smoothly.

With the assistance of these helpful tips and a MIBOX® storage container rental, your summer stuff will be nice and safe until it's needed next year.

1. Deflate Pool Toys Well

It's really important to ensure inflatable toys (and the pool itself in some cases) are deflated really well. Before they are tucked away into storage, they should be completely dry and devoid of air. This will help decrease the chances of these items becoming susceptible to mould and mildew during the winter season.

2. Organize and Clean the Lawn & Garden Tools

Before jamming all of the gardening tools away for the winter, give them a good cleaning. Besides attracting unwanted pests, the dirt and grime leftover from the summer gardening can potentially ruin your tools and equipment.

You should also drain all fluids and disconnect batteries from weed whackers, pressure washers, lawn mowers, and any other outdoor machinery. This will protect them from damage while they're escaping the winter weather in the safety of a mobile storage container.

3. Hide the Patio Furniture in a Secure Storage Location

Even though most patio furniture is designed to withstand different weather conditions, the weight of the snow can cause damage. Plus, your patio furniture is much more susceptible to rust when it's surrounded by cold, wet snow for months on end. To protect it, tuck it away in a storage cube or unit until the snow melts.

4. Swap Summer Attire for Winter Wear

To free up some much-needed space in your closet, pull out all of your summer clothes and store them away until next year. However, before you put them away, it's important to do this first:

  • Make sure your summer clothes are clean and thoroughly dry before packing them up
  • Choose a water-proof and air-tight container to store them in
  • Label the containers
  • Store footwear separately from clothing items
  • Store heavier items on the bottom
  • Tuck a few dryer sheets in the container before sealing for a fresh scent surprise when digging them out again next year

5. Invest in an Appropriate Storage Container Rental

One of the best things you can do to save your sanity and make the whole summer-to-winter transition easier is rent a portable storage container.  Not only can you keep these containers right on your property for easy access year-round, the rental rates are really reasonable.
