Although self-storage units come in various sizes, a 10x15 storage locker is the most common. To break those measurements down and give you an idea of the size, that means 15 feet long and 10 feet wide, equaling roughly 150 square feet. That may seem like a small space for storing your belongings, but remember, a lot of the storage space is vertical.

How Much Can Fit

If you have rented storage space from one of your local storage facilities, a general rule is that a two-bedroom apartment can be stored in a 10x15 storage unit when well-packed. Of course, this is all dependent on individual ideas of what should fit in a two-bedroom. From a storage specialist's perspective, that means the typical furnishings of two separate bedrooms, the larger contents of a living room and kitchen, and all the boxed items from a home. Think of a one-car garage and imagine it slightly smaller, and that's the size of a public storage locker.

What About Vehicles?

If you're considering storing a vehicle in a storage unit, you may need to upgrade to a larger size. The most common size storage locker for cars is a 10x20. That said, a compact car, such as a Smart Car or Fiat, might fit in a 10x15, but be sure to measure beforehand. A storage unit of this size is perfect for storing motorcycles and ATVs; remember to prepare them for storage properly.

Safety First

Always put safety first, no matter what unit you rent. Even though there is lots of ceiling room to stack boxes, be careful not to risk them falling, injuring someone, or breaking the contents of the moving boxes.
